Yes, it's true, and I can hardly believe it!
Here's the whole story:
On Tuesday, I dropped off four Hush Baby Toys at the Mom and Pop Place in downtown Neenah WI, to be consigned. This was the first time I have ever consigned anything with them, so I purposefully only brought a few. I didn't know how they would sell there, so I didn't want to get too involved in making a huge stock that could potentially just end up sitting around my house.
So I signed the contracts and talked with the manager a bit and left the toys on the counter. This morning, my husband and I took our daughter for a walk, and I thought it might be nice to pop into the store and see if my toys had made it onto the shelf yet. I have never seen my toys for sale on a shelf in an actual brick and mortor store before, so I was a little excited by the idea.
My husband and I walked around the shop for a while, and couldn't find them. Now I've worked retail in toy stores before, so I know that a lot of times toys will come in and sit in the back for a few days (sometimes a few weeks) until they can be entered into the computer's inventory and a good spot can be found for them on the shelves. Thinking this was the case, I asked the clerk when I might expect to see the toys on the shelf. She wasn't sure, so she went back to ask the manager Adria.
Adria came out of the office and proceeded to ask me if I had gotten "the check I sent for the four stuffed animals" they had sold!
SOLD! ALL FOUR!
She then told me that they sold right off the counter the same day I had dropped them off. She hadn't had time to put them into the computer or even finish up the paperwork on them. She did that in the evening right before she cut me a check.
SHE CUT ME A CHECK!
This is very exciting for me, if you can't tell. The Mom and Pop Place has asked for some more toys to consign, to see if they will remain popular. Between that, stocking for the online gallery, and building a small stock for stores when I move to Minnesota, I will definitely have my work cut out for me. The best thing about where this little venture is right now is that I can stop whenever I want. Right now it's fun for me, but the option is always there to stop whenever it stops being fun. That's a very reassuring (and actually quite motivating) thing for me to know.
Of course the downside to this is that my online gallery will be slower in getting up, but I trust you will all forgive me this little delay. If not, hopefully the wait will at least be worth your while.
Until next time, enjoy the summer weather! I know I will!
That's so amazing!! She sounds like the sweetest shop owner too- what a blessing for you three!
ReplyDeleteCould u just take a photo before you drop them off at the shop and then load them up in your online store as a model or are you only doing OOAK?
Best of luck!
